The EthnoConnection 2026 International Conference will take place from 18–20 October 2026 at the award-winning Museum of Ethnography in Budapest. Organised by the Museum of Ethnography as part of its mission to foster international dialogue and collaboration.
The 2.5-day event will bring together more than 200 museum professionals, curators, cultural leaders, and researchers from across Europe and beyond.
This year’s conference theme, “The Temptation of Permanence: A critical approach to museums’ permanent exhibitions,” will examine how museums rethink, reinterpret, and adapt permanent displays in response to changing audiences, cultural sensitivities, and institutional priorities.
Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, roundtables, and networking sessions, the conference will explore how museums can balance long-term narratives with evolving social and curatorial perspectives.

EthnoConnection 2026 is designed for professionals working across the museum and heritage sector, including curators, exhibition designers, educators, researchers, directors, and cultural strategists.
Attendees will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with peers, engage directly with speakers, and develop future collaborations through dedicated networking and discussion formats.
The programme will feature an internationally renowned keynote speaker alongside lead speakers from major European institutions, including the Pitt Rivers Museum, Wereldmuseum, Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations, Linden Museum Stuttgart, and the Slovene Ethnographic Museum.
