Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation has signed a deal to acquire the Silverwood theme park in Idaho.

Herschend, which owns and operates parks including Silver Dollar City and Dollywood, has been expanding its theme park portfolio this year.

The company will acquire Silverwood after completing an acquisition of Palace Entertainment's 24 US attractions earlier this year.

These include theme parks such as Kennywood and Dutch Wonderland in Pennsylvania, and Lake Compounce in Connecticut.

As for Silverwood, the Pacific Northwest's largest theme and water park was founded in 1988 by Gary Norton and operated by his family for three generations.

The 400-acre theme park is home to more than 70 rides and attractions, including the Boulder Beach Water Park.

“Silverwood has been our family’s life’s work for more than three decades,” said Paul Norton, Silverwood’s chief operating officer.

“When the time came to pass the torch, Herschend was the only choice," he added.

"They share our values, our long-term approach, and our belief that parks like this are built by people with heart.”

Per a press release, Herschend and Silverwood have started the due diligence process and are working towards finalising the transaction.

“This is more than a business transaction—it’s the continuation of a legacy,” said Andrew Wexler, CEO of Herschend.

“We are honored that the Norton family has trusted us to carry their vision forward and excited to welcome the Silverwood hosts and guests to Herschend."

Following its acquisition of Palace Entertainment's 24 US attractions, Herschend's portfolio includes 49 properties across North America.
