Anthony Bastic Founder and CEO AGB Events

Anthony Bastic, founder and CEO of AGB Events, is a pioneer in conceptualising, producing and delivering experiences and celebrations in Australia and overseas. For nearly three decades, Bastic has been finding new ways to connect with audiences by drawing inspiration from history, culture, art and technology.

His abilities and accomplishments are noteworthy; in 2016, he founded Parrtjima – A Festival of Light, an indigenous celebration for Alice Springs residents and visitors. Using the newest technology, this is a unique and iconic way to showcase the oldest living culture. Collaborating with Aboriginal artists, the event gives the art life and brightness. Bastic was also a key figure in the founding of Vivid Sydney and served as festival director of light and curator for ten years. Originally intended to be a light art festival, Vivid Sydney has given many emerging artists from around the world a platform.

He has demonstrated the power of fully immersive experiences to unite people, working to bring people together through powerful storytelling and immersive entertainment. For many years, his team has collaborated with the Australian Museum and initiated the digital storytelling of its treasures, enhancing artefacts through an immersive digital experience. Although it was intended to be a temporary activation, it remains in place today. The National Library of Australia commissioned him to curate Beauty Rich & Rare in 2020, the first Australian digital exhibition at The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

As the creative leader of AGB, Bastic developed and inaugurated The Australian Garden Show Sydney, the Lights of Boston, and produced the first two iLight Marina Bay in Singapore. He previously held high-profile creative positions in the events industry including the Sydney Opera House, Sydney 2000 Olympics Live Sites, Rugby World Cup 2003, Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, Centennial Parklands and Sydney City Council.

In 2023, Bastic was appointed a member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his contribution to the industry.
