Immersive International
John Munro is a cultural experience designer and artist known for originating large-scale public, cultural, and entertainment projects around the world. His work brings together art, spatial design, storytelling, and emerging technology to create experiences that connect people, places, and ideas.
Born in Manchester and raised across the Highlands of Scotland, Nigeria, Dubai, Zimbabwe, Bermuda, and London, Munro developed an early fascination with how culture and experience shape perception and identity.
He later studied at Goldsmiths, University of London, before founding Immersive in 2004. Over the past two decades, he has designed and directed projects across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America, working with governments, cultural institutions, and private patrons to create museums, exhibitions, destination experiences, large-scale live environments, and private commissions. Munro’s practice moves fluidly between art and experience design. His work spans spatial installations, pavilion design, stage design, film, animation, photography, immersive storytelling, and creative technology. He is the Founder & Principal of Immersive International, where he leads the vision and creative direction of the studio’s work worldwide.
Through the studio, his ideas are realised at an international scale. Working with an interdisciplinary team of designers, artists, and technologists, he has led the artistic direction of major international projects including the UK Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, the MobilityPavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, large-scale media works at Victoria Falls, and destination experiences developed in collaboration with leading global partners.
