Studio Ghibli announces My Neighbor Totoro anime theme park

Studio Ghibli, the animation house responsible for anime masterpiecesMy Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononokehas announced plans for a new environmentally friendly theme park.

Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki and Governor Hideaki Omura recently revealed that the city of Nagoya will host the first Studio Ghibli park, due to open in 2020 before the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

My Neighbor Totoro will be the main theme for the park, but there will also bea heavy focus on the environment. Hayao Miyazaki, the anime artist who wrote and directed the classic, alongside the studio and the Aichi government have all said that the park will have a limitedenvironmental impact - for instance, there will be no trees cut down down to make room for future attractions.

According to reports, the park will also have their very own Ghibli characters dotted around, allowing guests to take selfies with some of the stars, like Totoro himself. The park's construction costs are set to be funded by the province, with some help from Studio Ghibli.
