Luc De Roo
CEO
Walibi Rhône-Alpes
CEO of Walibi Rhône-Alpes, Luc De Roo has been working in the theme park sector for almost four decades.
Following a series of positions at Walibi attractions in France and Belgium, he was appointed as CEO of Walibi Rhône-Alpes in 2008.
Here, De Roo is responsible for the park’s development and management with a focus on innovation and enhancing the visitor experience, and has been driving continuous transformation.
“Luc had a vision for his park,” says one person who nominated De Roo.
“For more than 15 years, he led Walibi Rhône-Alpes, a French regional park that saw a more than 60% increase in attendance between 2014 and 2024 (667,000) thanks to a €50 million investment plan.”
Under De Roo’s leadership, the park has developed from a regional to a national level and is now regarded as world-class.
The first significant changes came in 2016 with the launch of the Explorer Adventure area and a wooden coaster called Timber.
“We didn’t want to take too big a risk by putting in a big steel coaster,” Julien Simon, project manager at Compagnie des Alpes, told blooloop.
“But we still wanted to make some kind of statement. At the time, there were only two other wooden coasters in France. Timber was the right decision, and it’s been really popular.”
The park now features three thematic universes, with 34 rides and shows, including "Mahuka", a Hot Racer roller-coaster from Intamin, which opened in 2024.
The same year, the park attracted a record-breaking 667,000 visitors.
Walibi Rhône-Alpes has been part of Compagnie des Alpes since 2006. Europe's leading European leisure group, Compagnie des Alpes has over 6,300 employees, 10 of the finest mountain resorts in the Alps and 13 renowned leisure parks.
In addition to Walibi sites, this portfolio includes major destinations such as Parc Astérix and Futuroscope.
