Media Matrexx — High-Tech Landmark of the Urban Core

This project introduces a world-pioneering kinetic principle that transforms public dusplay into a living stage of art, technology, and performance. The installation consists of 30 rings, each holding 50 independently controlled LED hexagons. The rings expand and contract between 5 and 7 meters, while hydraulic jacks lift them apart to extend the height of the structure from 7 to 11 meters. Every hexagon tilts independently, creating infinite variations of light and motion.

Concealed inside the main building when not in use, the sculpture emerges through a custom hydraulic lift at the start of each show. The sudden transformation is theatrical, as if a hidden machine comes alive before the audience.

The building also houses a stage, allowing live musicians, dancers, and performers to merge their work with the kinetic display. Together they create a show that is never the same twice, where architecture itself becomes a performer.

Out of the box innovation

What makes this project unique is its scale, its design principle, and its purpose. The concept reimagines the tradition of the city clock tower. Just as citizens once gathered to hear bells or see gears move, today they gather to watch media content, motion, and technology transform in rhythm. No other urban landmark currently combines hydraulics, LED motion, and architectural spectacle in this way. It is not static art, nor a temporary event — it is a permanent structure that moves, evolves, and surprises.

This is a new typology of urban landmark: one that is alive. It is mind-blowing because it defies expectations of what a building can do. People do not simply see it; they anticipate it, wait for it, and return again. It delivers something that has not been seen before in the industry — an engineered cultural machine that operates daily in the heart of the city.

Creative Technology

The true breakthrough lies in the technology that makes the experience seamless. The project required 1.5 years of development, with multiple layers of custom engineering.

  • Hydraulic lift system: designed to raise the 30-ring structure safely and reliably, with redundancy built into every stage.
  • Motion control software: each of the 1,500 LED hexagons responds independently, yet remains perfectly synchronised with the motion of the rings.
  • Durability: the sculpture was designed for year-round operation with minimal maintenance. Each LED module is accessible for servicing, while the hydraulic system includes safeguards for stability.
  • Operational ease: once programmed, shows run automatically, requiring minimal staff intervention.

This technology improves both guest experience and operator efficiency. Guests enjoy smooth, complex shows that never feel mechanical, while operators benefit from a system designed to be reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable. The integration of motion, light, and sound is not just innovative — it is pioneering.

Wow Factor

The reaction of the public is simple: “wow.” Visitors arrive not knowing what to expect, and then see the building open and reveal a sculpture that moves, grows, and glows with life. Rings ripple with light, expand like breathing, and tilt in patterns that seem organic. Combined with music and live performance, the result is overwhelming in scale and energy.

Audiences film it, share it, and bring friends to witness it. For the city, the installation is more than entertainment. It is a stage for civic storytelling, a way to show progress, and a symbol of modern identity. The wow factor is not only visual but emotional — it inspires pride and wonder.

This project is innovative because it is not just a structure, not just a performance, and not just technology. It is all three at once. It represents a new model for city landmarks: dynamic, interactive, and participatory.

By uniting scale, complexity, and artistry, the project sets a new benchmark for how cities can innovate, inspire, and engage. It proves that the future of urban space lies not in static monuments but in living, breathing experiences where technology becomes culture and culture becomes technology.
