Merlin Entertainments is set to open the first-ever theme park land inspired by the Minecraft video game at Chessington in 2027.

Minecraft World, the world's first immersive Minecraft theme park land, is a £50 million project in partnership with Mojang Studios.

The new land at Chessington World of Adventures will include a world-first Minecraft coaster, themed retail and dining, interactive adventures, and block-built playscapes.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing Minecraft’s creativity, bold adventures, and ridiculous fun to life at a theme park for the first time at Chessington World of Adventures," said Angela Jobson, SVP of global brands at Merlin.

"Minecraft World will allow friends and families to play, explore and craft together on a truly epic scale," she added.

"Working closely together with Mojang Studios we are meticulously creating an authentic world that the global community of Minecraft fans will want to immerse themselves in and experience the game in a whole new way."

Inspired by the video game’s most iconic biomes, mobs and items, Minecraft World will be one of Merlin's most ambitious theme park developments in recent years.

"Minecraft World represents a meaningful milestone in our ongoing journey to expand the Minecraft universe," said Torfi Frans Ólafsson, senior creative director of entertainment at Minecraft.

"We're thrilled to have partnered with Merlin Entertainments to realise a place where you can literally be in the Minecraft Overworld and have an adventure of your own with your family and friends," he added.

"The team at Merlin Entertainments and Mojang have worked hard to craft an experience that feels immersive, authentic and welcoming, and we can't wait for our community to experience it."

Merlin announced its collaboration with Mojang Studios in 2024, revealing plans to initially invest more than £85 million ($110m) in two new Minecraft-themed attractions in the UK and US.
