The re-imagined World Rugby Museum is set to open its doors in January 2018.
The museum’s new home is in Twickenham’s South Stand. It promises to be ‘bigger, better, brighter and more interactive than ever before’.
Billed as the definitive home for everything and anything about rugby, fans will see three times as many objects including memorabilia from around the world and from all eras.
Museum curator, Phil McGowan says the move has allowed the museum to improve its content and update its interpretive methods.
“It will house the world’s most prestigious collection of rugby memorabilia,” he explained. “This will include commentary, film and match-footage from the most iconic moments, memorable tours and greatest players in the history of what is the world’s most dramatic team sport.
“It will also include purpose-built events, education and research facilities. We will also invite visitors to engage in the game with exciting hands-on interactive exhibits.”
Its collection includes the RFU and Harry Langton collections and is understood to have increased significantly since 1996.
Cutting-edge interactive galleries have been designed to give younger visitors the opportunity to discover what kind of player they are.
