The British firm will ensure the City of Bath‘s story is preserved for future generations

Sarner International, the leading experiential design expert, has been selected to design and deliver a major immersive heritage attraction for the National Trust in the UK.

The firm will work on Bath Assembly Rooms, a historically significant asset found in the English county of Somerset. Sarner will utilise its design and build practice expertise to deliver an exciting new immersive experience which takes visitors on a dynamic adventure through the rich, multisensory life of Georgian-era Bath.

Historically significant

Recently celebrating its 250th anniversary, Bath Assembly Rooms has enticed people from across the globe to visit the social heart of the famous British city.

Once completed in 1771, the Rooms were described as ‘the most noble and elegant of any in the kingdom’, becoming an esteemed venue for the fashionable Georgian society. A variety of famous historical figures have been inspired by the building over time, including composers Handel and Haydn, and authors Samuel Johnson, Charles Dickens and Jane Austen who even included the Assembly Rooms in some of their most notable novels.

With Sarner winning the tender for the project, the Assembly Rooms are set to be reinvented and re-imagined to further explore the asset’s history, revealing its important role in society through mediums that will entertain and educate modern-day visitors.

Conservation matters

The Assembly Rooms aims to be as open and diverse with the local community as possible, with Sarner saying that engagement and involvement are critical to secure the successful operation of the venue. Income generated by the reinvented Bath Assembly Rooms will also help to support conservation work at other local National Trust sites such as 500 acres of countryside that contribute to the green setting of the City of Bath.

Sarner International projects director Ed Cookson says: “This is a unique opportunity to create a world-class heritage attraction that will explore the incredible story of Georgian Bath in an iconic building that was the heart of its social scene in the late eighteenth century.

“The new attraction will be an interactive and immersive experience that brings the history, complexity, and legacy to life for today’s local, national, and international audiences.”

Sarner International also recently announced it has been selected by the Science Museum Group to create a new immersive experience which celebrates the upcoming centenary of the renowned Flying Scotsman locomotive.
