The Striking Structure of The Manetti Shrem Museum of Art,

The Manetti Shrem Museum of Art,

The San Fransisco Chronicle looks at the architecture of The Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, which opened on Sunday at University of California, Davies.

The museum forms part of the “Gateway District”, which also includes the Mondavi Center for the Perfoming Arts and the university’s visitor center.

Whilst both the  Mondavi Center and the visitor center  are essentially regular box-shaped structures, the art museum is anything but, with a huge, sweeping white metal canopy which extends way past the sides of the building itself and envelops the entrance to the museum.

It is a striking statement and reminiscent of another visitor attraction on a different continent, that is also (literally) overshadowed by its roof, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
