Director / Founding Partner

Domestic Data Streamers

Pau Aleikum Garcia is co-founder and lead of Domestic Data Streamers (DDS), a Barcelona-based studio that focuses on technology's impact on society, using design and participative art to turn abstract data into tangible, human experiences.

The studio was established more than a decade ago and has since delivered multi-award-winning projects in more than 60 countries, working with organisations ranging from churches to corporate headquarters, MoMA, and the United Nations General Assembly.

Recently, its installation Forever Frequencies was exhibited as part of Feel the Sound, a touring exhibition from Barbican Immersive. This piece uses generative AI and music boxes to explore sound's potential to recall memory.

Another notable recent work is Synthetic Memories, a project that uses generative AI to recreate lost visual memories for refugees, migrants, and others affected by war, displacement, or climate change, using AI not only to imagine the future but to help people reclaim their past.

Following a pilot programme in 2024, the studio is now working to bring the concept to museums worldwide. Synthetic Memories is also being explored as a tool for dementia care.

In addition to his work with DDS, Garcia chairs the Master in Applied AI to Arts and Design programme at ELISAVA University in Madrid.

He is also a guest lecturer at institutions including the School of Visual Arts in New York, the Royal College of Art in London, the Hong Kong Design Institute, and the Barcelona School of Economics.

In 2021, he founded HeyHuman!, an artist residency initiative that brings together music, journalism, and data art research in service of social justice.

One person who nominated Garcia says: “Pau represents a genuinely novel intersection of data, design, and AI, one that pushes museums and cultural institutions to grapple with memory, identity, and displacement in ways few others in the field are attempting.”
