Park to feature a new dinosaur-themed playground and visitor centre

A multi-million pound regeneration of Crystal Palace Park in south-east London has started, with specialist contractors now appointed.

The work includes restoring the park’s Grade I-listed dinosaur sculptures, building a new visitor centre to replace the current information centre, and developing a new dinosaur-themed playground.

Also, Crystal Palace Park is restoring its iconic Italian terraces, and improving the footpaths and lighting around them.

Additionally, it’s introducing sustainable drainage systems in key areas of the park to improve water management, and adding new meadows, paleo-inspired planting, and wildlife-friendly shrubs.

Victoria Pinnington, chief executive of Crystal Palace Park Trust, said: “We can all look forward to a revitalised park, with its much-loved heritage features restored and protected, with better accessibility and improved information about the park’s history.

“We couldn’t be more pleased that this vital work is about to begin, to deliver all of this and more for our visitors.”

Bromley Council and Crystal Palace Park Trust have appointed Maylim as the contractor to carry out this phase of the works.

The company specialises in public realm and landscaping schemes, and has assembled a team of heritage specialists to deliver the Crystal Palace Park restoration project.

Expert advice, including from Historic England, will guide certain elements of the project, including the restoration of the dinosaurs and Italian terraces.

“As Crystal Palace Park has long been a cornerstone in London’s history of public spaces, it is an honour to contribute to the next chapter of this storied park,” said Thomas O’Mahony, managing director of Maylim.

Works due to be complete by next autumn

“Crystal Palace Park’s legacy is woven into the fabric of London, and we are committed to delivering a high-quality transformation that respects the past while creating a vibrant space for the future.”

The works at Crystal Palace Park are expected to be complete by autumn 2026. The park will remain open throughout the project.
