Wales-based adventure company Zip World has appointed Andrew Hudson as its new chief executive officer.
Hudson has replaced Adrian Jones, the former US president of Merlin Entertainments, who stepped down after just six months in the role.
Since joining the company in 2018, Hudson has helped it more than double in size from three to seven sites. Zip World is now on track to welcome a total of two million guests by the end of 2025.
In his new role, Hudson plans to expand Zip World’s sites and experiences across the UK and overseas. He will also implement more sustainable operations and oversee the opening of the company’s first hotel.
“Zip World has become one of the most aspirational brands in the marketplace over the past decade, creating a multitude of world-class experiences that have helped to preserve and enhance the unique qualities of local areas in post-industrial locations,” said Hudson.
“It is a real privilege to be asked to lead the organisation during this next period of exciting growth. I’m looking forward to drawing upon my deep knowledge of the business as we strive to unleash the adventure in all of us by creating invigorating experiences that are safe and inclusive.”
Launched in 2013, Zip World already offers 29 experiences across its seven sites in Wales and England. It is best known for Velocity 2, the world’s fastest zip line. The company started with eight staff and now employs more than 800 people at peak trading.
Zip World expansion plans
“This appointment marks a new era for Zip World and I’m incredibly excited for the company’s future,” said Sean Taylor, Zip World’s founder and president.
“We have experienced huge growth since the opening of our first site in 2013, and Andrew’s contribution, loyalty and dedication to the business have been transformative.”
He added, “His leadership skills, extensive experience and laser focus on strategic decision making based on consumer insights have meant that we’ve been able to establish an innovative and unique business that is truly a leader in its category.”
