Columbus Zoo’s Heart of Africa is a 43-acre expansion of the existing Zoo. The massive undertaking will combine an array of up-close interactions with a fully immersive and grand setting to convey conservation stories to guests. The new exhibit will be home to a variety of species including giraffe, lion, cheetah, gazelle, impala, zebra, ostrich, monkeys and many others. Multiple savanna yards will allow flexibility of herd populations and will provide a unique enrichment yard for a wide variety of animals to be changed throughout the day. Throughout the Heart of Africa, demonstrations and keeper chats will ensure one-on-one interactions to maximize educational potential. The massive site will include a restaurant overlooking several exhibits, a marketplace where artisan products will be sold, special tours and animal encounters, a special events rental facility with incredible savanna views, and multiple state-of-the-art holding facilities.
