One of the most sustainable Parks in the world takes the next steps towards Science Based Targets

Choni Fernandez Veciana, PortAventura’s Director: Central Services and Sustainability, will be speaking at greenloop 22.

Choni will open the conference for us in the first session at 10 am BST on 19 April.

About greenloop

greenloop sustainability in visitor attractions conference, will take place online, 19-20 April 2022. Leveraging Blooloop’s worldwide leadership across the industry, greenloop will look at hot topics across the sector.

The programme features sustainability leaders from theme parks, museums, zoos and aquariums who will share strategies and insights to inspire and inform.

When it comes to solving really big challenges, like how do we build sustainable theme parks, resorts and cruise ships around the world, it takes all of us and all of these different industries coming together. And that’s what’s great about greenloop … our collaboration is key to really think about how we build sustainable themed entertainment experiences.

Science Based Targets at PortAventura

portaventura world

PortAventura World became the first carbon neutral theme park in 2020, with initiatives including solar energy, plastic elimination, electric vehicles and Colorado Creek – the first zero-emission hotel.

“The carbon-neutral resort project is integrated into the global corporate responsibility strategy that guides the company’s decision-making to continue being a benchmark in sustainable tourism … Our strategic approach also demands that we integrate compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), defined in the 2030 Agenda, into our management in order to continue generating value.”

Choni Fernandez Veciana

Choni will be talking about the next steps in decarbonisation for one of the most sustainable theme parks & resorts in the world. In particular she will explain how and why PortAventura is adopting Science Based targets.

Science-based targets are a methodology for companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in order to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. The action aims to limit global warming to 1.5°C to minimise the impact of climate change and future proof businesses.

I cannot think of another event which goes near greenloop as a concentrated dollop of practical green inspiration – a must-attend for several of our team.
