Neom announces new sustainable tourism destination, Leyja

News
saudi arabia neom regreening initiative

Development will include three hotels with a range of wellness and active experiences

Neom has announced the development of Leyja, a new sustainable tourism destination within the Saudi Arabian giga-project. This will begin at the Gulf of Aqaba coast in the west and then wind inland to form a natural valley carved between 400m-high mountains. The new development is the latest addition to the Kingdom’s expanding ecotourism offering.

Leyja advances the Kingdom’s efforts to develop a robust and sustainable tourist sector in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and builds on Neom’s commitment to being a multifaceted destination. 95% of Leyja will be preserved for nature, in keeping with Neom’s plan to reserve the majority of its land across its destinations and cities for nature reserves. The development will also use creative, environmentally friendly design and construction methods to ensure that it blends with the surrounding environment.

A range of activities on offer

Expert architects developed Leyja’s three hotels to blend with the environment, function sustainably, and offer unique experiences. The three properties will include 120 boutique rooms and suites, with 40 keys at each.

One property is designed for active adventure. The deconstructed design climbs the valley walls like a staircase, allowing it to follow the landscape without disrupting it. Its unusual setting nestled in the cliff top and valley sides is designed to attract rock climbers and other thrill-seekers.

The second property rises from the rock to sit at the valley’s greatest oasis, offering a gateway to the valley beyond. The staircase climb from the canyon to the property entrance will offer spectacular valley vistas. High-tech, reflective façades mirror the natural surroundings at the third property, a wellness resort that promotes longevity.

When Leyja is built, it will provide a wide range of events and activities, including fine dining and modern eateries run by celebrity chefs. There will be rooftop infinity-style pools and wellness centres across all three properties, while visitors can enjoy hiking paths nestled in the mountain scenery of the valley, as well as extensive guided tours. Adventure-seekers will also be able to partake in mountain biking and climbing.

Leyja is the newest addition to Neom, which also includes the luxurious island of Sindalah; The Line, a linear city that symbolises the future of urban living; Trojena, a year-round mountain destination and the region’s first outdoor ski experience; and Oxagon, a reimagined industrial city.
