New solution is ideal for theme parks, dome theatres and other attractions

Christie, the global visual and audio technology company, has announced the launch of the new Christie Mirage SST-6P RGB pure laser projection system. This dual-head, 18,000 lumen, 4K, 6-Primary 3D RGB system provides users with twice the on-screen brightness of a classic colour-comb 30,000-lumen lamp-based 3D projection system.

This makes it a good solution for locations such as theme parks, dome theatres and other attractions, where bright and detailed 3D images are key.

A comfortable 3D experience

This new system has two sets of RGB laser primaries with slightly off-set wavelengths, one for each eye. The images are directed to the correct eye in order to provide an enjoyable 3D experience, through reusable 3D glasses which filter the different wavelengths.

The product is 90% efficient at projecting light onto the screen and is also white-screen compatible. This means it can blend multi-projector arrays, making the projection system suitable for dome theatres, dark rides and more.

“With the Mirage SST-6P projection system, dark 3D visuals are a thing of the past,” says Larry Paul, executive director, Technology and Custom Solutions, Enterprise and Entertainment, Christie.

“The Mirage SST-6P was developed specifically for 3D applications and exceeds the DCI-P3 colour space, ensuring that 3D visuals in dark rides, attractions and planetariums look as intended – bright, contrast-rich and colourful – revealing a level of detail audiences haven’t seen before.”

Compact & lightweight solution

The Mirage SST-6P features TruLife electronics, providing 4K 3D content up to 120fps per eye or up to 480fps at 2K. The two fibre-coupled projection heads are quiet and compact with remote light sources and chillers, resulting in low heat output. The system also has omnidirectional capabilities and solid-state illumination and can provide 30,000 hours of nearly maintenance-free operation to 80% brightness.

In addition, this new release from the company includes Christie Twist for warping and blending. It also supports Christie Guardian, is compatible with Christie Mystique and is available for order now.

Earlier this month, Christie provided a D4K40-RGD 3DLP pure laser projector for Kogakuin University in Japan, where it is displaying vibrant images on a “kinetic wall”.
