The performances will continue for another year in Paris following praise from guests

Dronisos, a leading drone light show specialist, has helped a major European theme park to award success for its nighttime spectacular.

Disney D-Light, an exclusive show found at Disneyland Paris, was named Best Live Entertainment 2022 during the Park World Excellence Awards held last week in London, UK, coinciding with IAAPA Expo Europe 2022. It was also nominated for the Best Product Innovation award. The show marks the first time a Disney Park anywhere in the world has used drones in an outdoor spectacular.

Since Disneyland Paris’ 30th-anniversary celebrations festivities began on 6 March 2022, guests have been able to experience a new event at the culmination of their park visit thanks to the joint performances of Disney D-Light and Disney Illuminations nighttime shows.

Storytelling and innovation

Disney D-Light combines video projection, water jets, lighting effects, fog, and lasers with a rousing Disney music score, ending with a unique magical moment where drones deliver a choreographed sequence over Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant, commonly known as Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Incorporating a state-of-the-art nighttime drone display, the outdoor show is the result of a collaboration between Disneyland Paris and Dronisos, an official technology supplier for the park.

Disney says its relationship with the Bordeaux-based tech firm indicates the importance of its strategy “to work with companies known for their expertise which share a passion for excellence”.

“For 30 years, Disneyland Paris has been committed to exceeding guest experiences by pushing the boundaries of storytelling and innovation. Our anniversary celebration marks a new era of continued transformation, creativity and growth,” adds the firm.

“An honour”

Disney D-Light is the result of an eight-month collaboration between the entertainment teams of Disneyland Paris and Dronisos, with the award being a significant outcome of this collaboration.

“We are proud of the work of Dronisos teams with Disneyland Paris to bring this innovative experience to the resort’s 30th Anniversary celebration,” says Dronisos managing director Laurent Perchais. “This recognition is a great reward, in addition to the smiles on guests’ faces when they experience the show every evening.”

“On behalf of all the teams who worked on Disney D-Light, it is an honour to receive this award,” adds Disney D-Light show producer Ben Spalding. “We are very proud of this achievement – there is no better way to end the day in the park celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris!”

It was announced at D23 Expo, recently held in Anaheim, California, US, that Disneyland Paris’ 30th Anniversary celebration will be extended until 30 September 2023. Initially planned for a limited time run, the show will continue as a result of the excellent response it has received from guests. A new show will also debut, integrating modern stage technology, state-of-the-art video and lighting design.
