Moonraker VFX makes Fulldome film debut

Moonraker Moonbase Marketing Still

Audiences will be transported to a new environment with a new space experience

Moonraker VFX Ltd., the award-winning UK-based VFX studio, has launched its first original film for the Fulldome market, Moonbase: The Next Step.

The immersive 4k Fulldome movie will immerse audiences in a breathtaking and uplifting lunar adventure while pushing the boundaries of science and technology.

The film, which has been a year in the making and is narrated by former NASA astronaut Nicole Stott, combines Moonraker’s award-winning creative vision and passion for Science and Natural History television with their extensive experience in immersive Visitor Attractions to set a new standard for licensable films in the Fulldome sector.

Immersive experience

As humanity begins the next phase of space exploration, Moonbase: The Next Step will immerse viewers in an atmosphere that makes them aware of the Moon’s huge size and the enormous challenge of working and living there.

After inspiring audiences with ambitious VFX content for shows like Netflix’s Ancient Apocalypse and BBC’s Frozen Planet 2, Moonraker’s decision to expand their expertise into the Fulldome industry was a logical next step. The new movie draws on the studio’s vast expertise in transporting viewers to settings that aren’t possible to capture on camera.

“As a studio, we’ve thrived on the creative challenge that comes with breaking into a new market,” says Moonraker co-founder and creative director Simon Clarke

“Combining the two elements of cinematic visuals and the dome screen can be incredibly powerful – not only enhancing the storytelling experience but immersing visitors in breathtaking worlds of astronomy and planetary science that feel almost tangible. We’re looking forward to stretching the boundaries of what’s possible in this space.”

Just the first step

Moonraker is already contemplating spin-offs in various forms, including television, augmented reality, and flying theatres, even though this project will be made for planetarium audiences.

Co-founder and managing director Jon Grafton adds: “This is an incredibly exciting milestone for the business and having the ability to create our own licensable content is a core part of a growth strategy.”

More information on Moonbase: The Next Step can be found on the film’s official website.

Moonraker was selected last year by the UK government as an industry-leading example of British innovation for leading industry conference SXSW.
