Panasonic Connect to release new media processor in 2024

Panasonic Connect new media processor 2024

New line of media processors will deliver efficient multi-projection for touring and fixed immersive experiences

Panasonic Connect, a leading audiovisual technology provider, has revealed its plans to release the first model from a new line of media processors developed to deliver efficient multi-projection in 2024.

This new offering will streamline workflows and provide outstanding content for the Location Based Entertainment (LBE) sector using Panasonic’s leading projectors, making it ideal for touring and fixed installation immersive experiences.

Locally deployed computing power

Computing power for immersive experiences is usually deployed in dedicated server rooms, which take up valuable space and necessitate a large amount of cabling and power. The new Media Processor provides a more adaptable and efficient solution by deploying computing power locally in the cellular system, with each projector having its own GPU nearby. This reduces the need for cabling while also protecting against signal loss.

The Media Processor integrates the computing power of a media server with the flexibility of a compact and cost-effective media player. It allows content to be projected onto any surface, including flat and curved screens, with future versions adding functionality for domed and 3D objects.

The new Media Processor will be offered in two versions. A compact hardware box will be available for easy placement outside the media server room and closer to the projectors. In addition, an Intel Smart Display Module (SDM) version enables direct integration with Panasonic SDM-equipped projectors, simplifying systems. Delegates at ISE 2024 in Barcelona will be able to see an exclusive preview of both versions.

Hartmut Kulessa, European marketing manager for visual system solutions at Panasonic Connect Europe, says: “For the entertainment industry, it’s all about delivering the best possible immersive experience for audiences with minimal fuss. Our new Media Processor draws on all our experience in this sector and is easier to transport, set-up and operate than traditional media processors whilst making it simple to deliver the all-important quality of image when using multiple projectors.”

Simplified system

The new Media Processor was developed to simplify operators’ lives without sacrificing quality. With its customised functionality, it expedites transportation, installation and setup times for touring attractions, reduces the need for experienced engineers, and means that users deal with a single manufacturer for any queries or problems.

It also gives fixed installations the option to cut costs by removing the requirement for a server room and significant amounts of cabling, freeing up space for the attraction and backroom infrastructure.

Kulessa adds: “Our vision is to continue to simplify the AV systems and workflows for the Location Based Entertainment industry. As we move forward, we will develop new functionality for the system while ensuring that users have the flexibility to update only what they require. This will further increase usability and maximise return on investment from the solution.”

The box type Panasonic Media Processor is slated for release in Q2 of 2024, followed by the SDM version in Q4 of 2024.

Panasonic Connect recently announced that it has provided 28 cutting-edge Panasonic 3-Chip DLP projectors to the artist-led immersive exhibition space Lightroom, in London.
