Alton Towers is adding two new eerie attractions to this year’s Halloween event, Scarefest – a scare maze called Edge of the Forest and the Dark Hollow scare zone.
Edge of the Forest is located in Alton Towers’ Dark Forest, “where a forgotten cottage stands as the last remnant of a forgotten time”.
This live action scare maze focuses on a “lurking presence” known as the Leshwall, which “twists the trees and plays tricks on the mind”.
Alton Towers says guests should “be warned” as “the vines twist, the forest shifts with every step, and you’re never alone”
As for Dark Hollow, this free-flowing outdoor scare zone will immerse visitors into the expanding world of TH13TEEN, the world’s first vertical freefall drop coaster.
Per the Alton Towers website, “The forest breathes, its ancient roots stirring restless and shadows flicker between hollow trees.”
Here, “a chilling presence watches, waiting to draw you deeper into the darkness”.
Bianca Sammut, vice president of Alton Towers, said the resort is “always raising the bar for thrills and our latest scare attractions, Edge of the Forest and Dark Hollow, are no exception”.
“The new scare maze and scare zone bring the twists of the Dark Forest to life in terrifying new ways and we can’t wait to see brave fans take it on during Scarefest 2025.”
As part of this year’s Scarefest, popular attractions like Altonville Mine Tours, Burial Ground and the Compound scare maze will be returning.
Scarefest 2025: new and returning experiences
Also back for 2025 is a family-friendly attraction called Amigos in the Afterlife and the Trick O’ Treat Town with Haribo & Maoam.
Theme parks across the world are expanding their Halloween events to take advantage of the recent growth of spooky season.
Speaking to Reuters last year, IAAPA’s chief executive Jakob Wahl said: “We actually see a growth every year in terms of Halloween events, not only North America, but across the world.”
Scarefest launches on 7 September and runs through 2 November.
