Chessington World of Adventures has submitted plans for a “unique and immersive water park experience” after holding a public consultation last year.
The UK park’s plans for a new indoor water park were revealed in November when it launched a public consultation.
Until now, information about the aquatic development has been under wraps. According to documents submitted to Kingston Council (via the Evening Standard), Chessington owner Merlin Entertainments wants to build a water park with wave pools, infinity pools, waterslides, an aqua play area, a beach area, a splash pad, and an adventure river.
“Visitors’ demands and expectations of leisure and tourism attractions are constantly evolving and growing,” Chessington said in the documents.
“These are influenced by experiences abroad where the likes of Disney and Universal Studios are able to accommodate guests on site for extended periods, to enable visitors to fully immerse themselves in the experience of the themed areas and attractions on offer… without investment visitor numbers will decline.”
The theme park said 85 percent of local residents support the plans for a new water park. “The vision of the project is to offer a unique and immersive water park experience where guests can encounter live creatures and animals throughout their visit,” it added.

The proposals are due to be discussed by the council later this year. If the plans are approved, the water park could open as soon as 2025. “The goal is to provide an unforgettable and memorable experience,” said Chessington.
Earlier this year, the world’s first Jumanji-themed land and coaster opened at Chessington. The £17 million ‘World of Jumanji’ land is the single largest investment in Chessington’s history.
