Journey of Water is an exploration trail where guests can play with magical, living water.

Walt Disney Imagineering has unveiled the Te Fiti display for Epcot’s upcoming Journey of Water attraction, inspired by Disney’s 2016 animated film Moana.

Opening in late 2023, Disney’s first attraction based on Moana is located in the World Nature neighbourhood of Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort.

Journey of Water is described as an exploration trail where guests can enjoy and play with magical, living water.

“This morning, our project team at Journey of Water, inspired by Moana welcomed Te Fiti at her position along the trail,” Imagineering wrote on Instagram.

“This is a momentous milestone for the project team as we continue to bring this experience to life for Epcot guests in late 2023.”

Imagineering’s lead concept designer Reid Ekman previously described Journey of Water as an “immersive exploration trail” where guests will “explore and engage with water as it travels from our skies to our oceans and back again”.

Elsewhere, Avatar director James Cameron has been in touch with Disney about updating Animal Kingdom’s Avatar Flight of Passage attraction with elements from his upcoming films.

Updating Animal Kingdom’s Avatar attraction

In an interview with Variety, Cameron said: “When Bob Iger came back a couple weeks ago, I did send him an email and say, ‘You know, we can do Avatar 2 and 3 motifs and put them into the physical hardware of Avatar Flight of Passage.

“He liked that idea. So nothing has been decided. But, you know, we would like to carry that along and update it from time to time with things that flow back out of the new movies.

“Because I think there’s a good synergy between the physical base where you can go and just kind of meditate and be on Pandora and how the movies progress the story and bring in new imagery.”
