Lift and launch coaster features two distinct ride sequences

Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, is celebrating the launch of its new ride, ‘Gold Rush’ at Drayton Manor, UK.

The ride opened on 26 July and is one of Europe’s most innovative family coasters. Gold Rush features a multi-experience layout configuration, as well as a lift and launch, which marks a first for both Europe and Intamin.

Multi-experience layout

Drayton Manor’s Gold Rush is a thrilling ride that transports visitors back in time to the gold mining era.

The coaster features a unique multi-experience layout that allows it to transition between two distinct ride sequences with the flick of a switch. This means that the park can change the ride experience, for example using one sequence in the morning and another in the afternoon.

One of these ride sequences includes a traditional forward ascent up the lift hill. Following a separate backwards friction wheel launch section the coaster then reverses the backside of the lift hill, stalls, and launches forwards back down the lift hill once more.

Riders are then propelled through the remainder of the thrilling layout by a powerful tire launch. This includes a variety of close-to-ground elements which provide an unexpected and exciting riding experience. The coaster features a top speed of approximately 60 kilometres per hour and an experienced track length of around 808 metres.

Gold Rush uses Intamin’s established single-backbone track, which provides a smooth ride and an appealing aesthetic while requiring fewer columns than classic two-pipe track systems. The trains are fitted with comfortable seats and individual lap bars and have bespoke theming that can be tailored to any narrative. With a minimum height requirement of only one metre, these trains are ideal for the whole family.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to experience Gold Rush at Drayton Manor, one of the most innovative family coasters, combining both lift and launch for a unique experience,” says a spokesperson from Intamin.

“The Intamin team is proud to be part of this project would like to extend its gratitude to its long-standing partners Drayton Manor and Looping Group, for placing their trust in us.”

Last month, Intamin’s new Hot Racer roller-coaster ‘Mahuka‘ opened at Walibi Rhône-Alpes in France. Mahuka, which translates as “escape” in Hawaiian, takes visitors on a journey to a remote island in the South Pacific where they enter an abandoned temple dedicated to the God of Fire.
