Merlin Entertainments has announced an opening date for Legoland Shanghai Resort. The world’s largest Legoland launches on 5 July.
Located in Fengjing in the Jinshan District, Legoland Shanghai contains over 75 rides, shows and attractions, as well as thousands of Lego models, across eight immersive lands.
Entertainment experiences at Legoland Shanghai include 22 daily character interactions, 11 themed shows and special events, and a 4D cinema showing Lego movies.
“Announcing the grand opening date is a major milestone for Legoland Shanghai Resort,” said John Jakobsen, chief strategic portfolio development officer at Merlin.
“We’re excited to be welcoming guests through the door upon resort opening and are getting ready to bring to life the immersive, imaginative and creative theme park experience that only Legoland can offer.
“Legoland Shanghai Resort will make Lego possibilities come to life on an epic scale, sparking a lifetime of play, creativity, and imagination.”
Ahead of the opening, construction at Legoland Shanghai is in its final phase, with all 24 core rides now getting pre-opening adjustments.
Legoland Shanghai construction in final phase
Also, the resort’s exterior facades and paving work are concluding, and the Legoland Hotel has been completed.
Preparatory work for park operations is progressing. Before the trial period begins, nearly 100 emergency drills are being carried out.
In addition, recruitment work is about to conclude, with around 1,000 staff set to join Legoland Shanghai, Merlin said.
The centrepiece of Legoland Shanghai is Miniland, with construction progressing and nearing completion on the attraction.
The new hotel at Legoland Shanghai features 250 rooms themed to Lego City, Lego Friends, Lego Castle, Lego Ninjago, and Lego Monkie Kid, which are the first in the world.
Highlights in the hotel include more than 1,700 Lego art installations and 200 interactive Lego features.
Earlier this year, Merlin provided a construction update for Legoland Shenzhen, another new resort in China.
The company is also building a new Legoland destination in Sichuan.
Merlin CEO Fiona Eastwood recently said China is a “very important market”.
