What happens now? The simple answer is that we do not know.”

Liseberg, its construction contractor NCC, and the Gothenburg fire department have shared another update after a huge fire broke out at the new Oceana water park on Monday (12 February).

During a press conference on Tuesday (13 February), Liseberg confirmed that one person is still missing. Further information about the missing person was not provided, Liseberg said in a new statement.

“The focus of the rescue operation, conducted in close collaboration with NCC and present constructors, was to investigate if there were more people in need of rescue inside the building,” said Per Nyqvist, rescue chief at the Gothenburg fire department, during the briefing.

“The damages and risk of building collapse limited the opportunities to access the entire building and search for the person who is still missing.”

Throughout Monday evening and night, the rescue operation managed to save large parts of the water park building, Nyqvist said. The fire has now significantly diminished.

Niklas Sparw, business area manager at Swedish construction company NCC, added: “What has happened is terrible. Our thoughts are with the family and relatives of the missing person.

“Our focus now is to take care of our employees, support our customer Liseberg, and assist the police and fire department in their investigation of what has happened.”

Liseberg team is “shocked” and “shaken”

Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg, said the team is “shocked and deeply saddened, affected, and shaken by what has happened”.

He continued: “Many are now wondering, what happens now? The simple answer is that we do not know. Right now, our focus is not on finances or material damages but on the people affected by the fire.

“Currently, we do not have an overview of the project-related consequences. At the same time, I can promise that we will look forward with determination and hope. We will get through this.”
