Construction on ‘Max & Moritz’ begins at Efteling

Efteling, the leading theme park in the Netherlands, has begun construction of the new attraction ‘Max & Moritz’, opening Spring 2020.

The attraction is based on the 1865 illustrated German story, Max & Moritz. In the rhymed tale, the two brothers annoy their village neighbours and get up to all sorts of mischief.

The attraction’s ‘powered coaster’ has electric trains that can vary their speed. The two trains will run in opposite instructions. Max’s blue track and Moritz’s green track will have different routes and features. The two trains will ride over and under each other across the alpine landscape, catering for 2,000 guests per hour.

Drone photographs show that work on the new double family coaster is progressing.

700 m³ of poured concrete and columns are now in place for the foundations of the ride.

Landscaping of the 8.850m2 plot has begun with a total of 5000 m³ of land for a hilly meadow, 125 Serbian spruces, and wild plants and mountains roses will blossom in the summer, just like the Alps. The track will begin laying at the beginning of 2020.

You can follow the construction of the attraction on Efteling’s ‘The Making-of Max & Moritz’ on YouTube.

This month, Efteling opened their newest attraction Fabula, a 4D film created with UK studio Aardman Animations. The 3D film has a strong nature theme and includes 4D effects like water, wind and scent.
