Oriental Land Company’s new chairman and CEO Yumiko Takano has revealed plans to expand Tokyo Disney Resort.
Tokyo DisneySea is already building an eighth themed port called Fantasy Springs, which is due to open next year with three areas inspired by Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan.
As well as the new areas, called Frozen Kingdom, Rapunzel’s Forest and Peter Pan’s Never Land, Fantasy Springs includes a hotel, restaurants, and a shop across a total area of around 140,000 square metres.
New entertainment and attractions

During a media tour of Fantasy Springs on Thursday (24 August), Takano said (via Nikkei Asia): “We believe there are still various possibilities when it comes to expansion.”
She added, “We are going to work on developing attractions and entertainment for Tokyo Disney Resort as a whole.”
The attractions in Fantasy Springs, Takano said, “are all unique to Tokyo Disney Resort”. They include the Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey and Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival boat rides, and the Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure and Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies attractions.
At Tokyo Disneyland, Oriental Land has broken ground on the new Space Mountain roller coaster in Tomorrowland, which is due open in 2027.
The indoor coaster has been a popular attraction at Tokyo Disneyland since the theme park’s opening day. The updated ride will provide “enhanced performance” as well as “immersive special effects”, according to Oriental Land.
Part of the development is the renovated Tomorrowland plaza, which will offer “moments of rest and relaxation”, said Oriental Land Company. After dark, the plaza will be a “spectacular world of light and soundscapes”.
Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983 and was followed in 2001 by Tokyo DisneySea. The former is divided into seven themed lands, while the latter is currently home to seven themed ports.
