Paramount Pictures has signed an agreement with an Indonesian company to create a theme park in the Jembrana regency of Bali.

Paramount Pictures is developing the biggest theme park in Southeast Asia, located in the Jembrana regency of Bali, alongside Indonesian company PT Kios Ria Kreasi.

In a press release issued by the People’s Consultative Assembly, speaker Bambang Soesatyo said the project will strengthen Bali’s post-COVID economy.

“The development of Paramount theme park will strengthen Bali’s position as a recreational and entertainment hub for world citizens,” Bambang said.

“It will also improve Bali’s economy, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added. “It will make Bali even more charming in the eyes of world tourists.”

The agreement was signed last week in Los Angeles, with the event virtually attended by Indonesian officials including Wayan Koster, the governor of Bali.

The Paramount Pictures attraction will be located in Pekutatan, Jembrana. It is expected to soft launch in 2025 and will attract up to 5 million annual visitors.

“The soft launch is targeted to be carried out in 2025,” Bambang said. “Its presence is expected to attract 5 million tourists every year.”

Paramount Pictures is yet to release a statement regarding the Bali development, but it is being widely reported by local media outlets.

Elsewhere, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment’s Paramount theme park at the Inspire Korea integrated resort (IR) could be delayed beyond 2025.

Mohegan’s international president Bobby Soper told Inside Asian Gaming: “Currently there is no definitive schedule for construction and completion of the theme park component, but we continue to assess the optimal timing.”

Inspire Korea’s Paramount theme park will cover 404,600 square metres. It will be home to 40 branded rides and attractions inspired by Paramount Pictures films such as Mission Impossible and Star Trek.
