Paultons Park is working to increase its on-site electricity generation

Paultons Park in Romsey, Hampshire has unveiled plans for the first phase of a new £1.5 million solar energy project.

Through the new solar project, which is due to complete by February 2025, Paultons Park will increase its on-site electricity generation from 8 percent to 35 percent of its annual usage.

Groundworks have already started for the erection of solar canopies covering two of the theme park‘s car parks, as well as the installation of additional solar roof panels on 11 existing buildings across the destination.

Additionally, Paultons Park is installing a 430 kWh battery energy storage facility to store and utilise generated electricity at times when solar energy is not being produced.

Lawrence Mancey, marketing and technology director at Paultons Park, said: “At present, around 8 percent of our electricity usage is generated on-site through solar panels. This investment unlocks the ability to raise that figure to 35 percent and is a significant step forward in our sustainability journey.

“Delivery of our solar car ports is the first major phase in a larger project to reduce our impact on the planet and enhance our green initiatives.”

Paultons Park ultimately aims to generate at least 50 percent of its power requirements. Other green initiatives at the park include two grass-roofed buildings, water usage reduction technologies, and energy efficient building materials.

Sustainability at Paultons Park

Lawrence added: “Paultons Park has delighted generations of families for over 40 years, helping them create unforgettable memories here in the beautiful New Forest.

“We’re fully committed to playing our part in helping to preserve and protect our environment for many more generations of families to come.”

Opened in 1983, Paultons Park is a family-run theme park covering 140 acres and home to more than 80 rides and attractions. It also houses Peppa Pig World.
