The “confidential project” is planned at SeaWorld in Texas

United Parks & Resorts is planning to expand SeaWorld San Antonio in Texas with a new $6 million themed area.

Per a report in the Orlando Business Journal, United Parks & Resorts plans to add a new area to its Texas park that will span nearly 150,000 square feet.

An initial filing with the state of Texas refers to a “confidential project”. This includes new construction and a renovation. An earlier version of the filing included the name “Rescue Jr”.

Last year, SeaWorld San Diego opened its new Rescue Jr play area, which offers rides, water elements, and climbing structures, all themed to SeaWorld’s animal rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

According to the state filing, SeaWorld San Antonio will begin construction on its new project this autumn and complete the work by spring of next year. The estimated construction cost is $6m.

Earlier this year, SeaWorld San Antonio opened Catapult Falls – the world’s steepest flume coaster, and also the only flume ride in North America with a vertical lift.

Also on offer at the park are Texas Stingray, the tallest, fastest and longest wooden coaster in the state, and Tidal Surge, the world’s tallest and fastest ride of its kind.

Construction to start this autumn

Last year, SeaWorld San Antonio started installing a state-of-the-art solar canopy to generate 16 percent of its electricity and provide shade to 1,200 parking spots.

Over in Florida, SeaWorld Orlando has opened Penguin Trek, its first family launch coaster. The new ride has an innovative design and is the park’s eighth coaster.

Located in the new Antarctica realm, Penguin Trek has an indoor and outdoor track, with guests racing on snowmobile-style ride cars at speeds of up to 43 mph.

SeaWorld Entertainment recently changed its corporate name to United Parks & Resorts to unite its portfolio of seven brands across 13 theme parks in the US and Abu Dhabi.
