Shanghai Disneyland announces new Spider-Man-themed attraction

News

Shanghai Disney Resort has announced that Shanghai Disneyland will introduce a new Spider-Man-themed attraction, the park‘s first major attraction to tell a Marvel story. The new attraction will include a high-energy thrill ride based on Spider-Man, one of the most well-known Marvel Superheroes, and will transport guests on a fast-paced, totally immersive journey.

The statement came after the reveal earlier this year of a sizable new attraction being developed for Shanghai Disneyland, situated next to the park’s newest themed area, Zootopia. During Disney’s global fan expo, D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, two new renderings of the attraction were also unveiled at Horizons – D23 Disney Experiences Showcase, hosted by Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, The Walt Disney Company.

New immersive Marvel adventure

The new coaster will be packed with all the excitement of a Marvel film, allowing riders to race at high speeds to rescue Spider-Man.

The first steps towards building the new attraction, which is the Shanghai Disney Resort’s newest addition, were taken earlier this year. Currently, plans for the resort’s development include the construction of a third Disney-themed hotel, which will be built next to the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.

During the D23 event, several announcements were made, including new experiences at Disneyland in California inspired by Marvel, the Avatar franchise, and Coco. The Marvel-themed attractions are coming to Disney California Adventure and will double the size of the park’s existing Avengers Campus.

Meanwhile, Disneyland Paris has unveiled a new area inspired by The Lion King and announced an opening year for its new Frozen-themed land. The new World of Frozen is part of a €2 billion expansion plan for Walt Disney Studios Park, which will become Disney Adventure World when the land opens in 2026.

Disney Cruise Line also announced four new ships at this year’s D23 fan event.
