Yasuhiro Nakano, the mayor Beppu City, promised that if he could get 1 million hits on his YouTube video he would build the town aSPAmusement Park.
The video, which shows theme park visitors enjoying various rides includinghot tubs fitted into carriages, has exceeded the target with nearly 3 million views.The funds for the development of the theme park, now calledYuenchi - a combination of the Japanese words “yu” (hot water) and “yuenchi” (amusement park) - will be raised through crowdfunding.
A campaign on Japanese crowdfunding website Campfire campaign starts on February 10th, aiming to raise 100 million yen ($826,000).
In a press conference about the park’s continuing development, Nagano stated “The expectations are big for Yuenchi. We’re hoping to create something that will live up to those expectations, delivering fun and excitement.”
