Universal Studios Japan‘s Wizarding World of Harry Potter will soon be home to a host of new magical creatures.
For a limited time starting on 17 March, the ‘Magical Creatures Encounter’ experience will introduce visitors to the Hippogriff and the Niffler, as well as a Pygmy Puff and a smoke-breathing baby dragon.
Guests will learn how to approach and interact with the Hippogriff alongside Hogwarts students in the new ‘Hippogriff Magical Lesson’ show.
As for the other creatures, the Niffler will be appearing in front of the land’s Owl Post retail outlet, and the Pygmy Puff will be found next to Zonko’s Joke Shop. The baby dragon will be located in the plaza in front of Hogsmeade Station.

“These creatures can be fussy… I encourage you to watch the film first for tips… before you come to interact with them or before touching them,” said Pierre Bohana, the head prop maker for the Harry Potter film franchise.
“The Niffler and Pygmy Puff are so lovely and emotional, you are sure to become friends with them. But take care, or you might get scolded or sulked at,” he added.
“The baby dragon is adorable because it’s so young, but you never know what they will do, so take the utmost care.” The Hippogriff, said Bohana, is “authentic and awe-inspiring”.
Elsewhere, an official Wizarding World-inspired pop-up store is opening on 10 February in Mall of the Emirates, Dubai. It will be available until 31 January 2024.

The pop-up shop will sell official merchandise, including clothes, toys, souvenirs and sweet treats. There will also be themed photo opportunities and product demonstrations, as well as games and contests.
Also in the Middle East, Miral has announced a new Harry Potter-themed land for Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi.
“Together with our lands at Universal parks, this will add a wholly new and spectacular destination for fans to immerse themselves in,” said Pam Lifford, president of global brands and experiences at Warner Bros. Discovery.
