Universal has registered a trademark for “Universal United Kingdom Resort”, which could be the name of its proposed UK theme park.
The company filed an application with the Intellectual Property office for the trademark on Monday (8 September).
In the application, Universal said the name was related to “entertainment and amusement park services”, as well as hotels, and merchandise such as books, bags, clothing and toys.
It comes after Universal applied to trademark its name in the UK in February in relation to advertising services; hotels, restaurants, bar and cafe services; and amusement park, theme park and water park services.
A multibillion-pound deal was agreed for Universal’s resort in Bedfordshire in April, and Universal has already submitted a planning application.
“Universal United Kingdom Resort”
Universal is targeting a 2031 opening for the resort, as confirmed last week by Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences.
“We have had 18,000 people register on our app to come and work for us, 2,000 vendors in the marketplace that want to be part of this development,” Woodbury said at the Bank of America 2025 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference.
“So our hope is that that process will go very smoothly, but parks are complicated organisms.”
On the park’s design, Woodbury said: “It’s a full-blown Universal theme park with a 500-room hotel that is part of it, very much like Epic in terms of a park with a hotel.
“We’ve created a different mix of attractions that we think will work great in the UK.”
In more news, Disneyland Abu Dhabi could open before Universal’s UK park, according to Abu Dhabi’s culture and tourism department.
