Warner Bros. Movie World in Queensland, Australia has revealed more about its upcoming Wizard of Oz-themed land, billed as the world’s first.
Due to open this year, the new land will contain two family-friendly rides – a suspended coaster and a boomerang racer.
The suspended coaster is called ‘Flight of the Wicked Witch’ and offers a top speed of 67 km/h, a top height of 19 metres, and a 454-metre-long track.
The boomerang racer is called ‘Kansas Twister’. This features two racing tracks of 225 and 220 metres long, a top speed of 58 km/h, and a top height of 22 metres.
World’s first Wizard of Oz land
Warner Bros. Movie World has also provided a construction update, as well as concept art for the land’s attractions, in a new video.
In addition to the new rides, the Wizard of Oz land will feature immersive theming, including a recreation of the 1939 film’s Yellow Brick Road.
“Movie World fans in Australia will get to step into Oz like no fan has done before,” said Peter van Roden, senior vice president of global themed entertainment at Warner Bros. Discovery, in 2022.
“A first of its kind, the Wizard of Oz land will extend the storytelling and bring of one of the most iconic and beloved films to life in an amazing way,” he added.
“We are over the moon (or should we say rainbow) to be bringing Oz to guests of Movie World in 2024.”
“The new precinct will be developed in the retired Arkham Asylum area and will transform the space into the colourful and vibrant world of Oz as seen in the nostalgic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz,” said Clark Kirby (via Parkz), CEO of Village Roadshow, which operates Warner Bros. Movie World.
