Firm brings rainforest-themed fun with Toucan Twister and Amazon Skyrise

Zamperla, a leading ride manufacturer, is celebrating the opening of the new Rainforest Adventure area at Drusillas Park in East Sussex, UK. This is home to four family rides, two of which were rethemed by the Italian firm.

As well as using cutting-edge technology to create these two rides, Toucan Twister and Amazon Skyrise, Zamperla’s artisan craftspeople worked on several themed elements that bring the rides to life, such as a giant toucan sitting on top of a pond of colourful lily pads, and two large tropical frog sculptures.

Toucan Twister and Amazon Skyrise join a rethemed Jungle Jeeps ride from Metallbau and the park’s existing Rainforest Carousel to form a brand new rainforest-themed land, The Rainforest Adventure. This replaces Hello Kitty’s Secret Garden, which closed in December 2021.

The Rainforest Adventure forms a vital part of Drusillas’ future development plans and is the second investment of more than half a million pounds in less than a year.

Guests can enjoy Toucan Twister, a tropically-themed teacup ride that features water lilies spinning around a huge toucan; Amazon Skyrise, which takes them high above the trees before a thrilling drop back to the ground; Jungle Jeeps, a mini-safari adventure where young visitors can take the wheel as they spot jaguars, crocodiles, and a spitting anaconda; and the park’s popular Rainforest Carousel.

There is also a new toddler ride called Junior Jeep which gives the youngest explorers a chance to drive a static Jungle Jeep down the rainforest track. This sits within a hand-painted jungle hut, created by London-based street artist, Aspire Artwork, who also worked on rainforest imagery for the Jungle Jeep tunnel.

Zamperla’s Marco Mazzucchi says: “Working hand in hand with Drusillas and the Smith family has been a pleasure for us: we had the opportunity to realise their vision regarding the two rides, letting this revamping project become like a work of art.”

Drusillas managing director, Ollie Smith, adds: “Seeing all the pieces of the jungle come together over the last few months has far surpassed our expectations, and we can’t wait to share The Rainforest Adventure with our visitors.”

“It’s been exciting seeing the many unusual deliveries arriving; one day it’s a giant toucan, the next it’s a lorry full of jeeps, or a spitting anaconda! Our estate team have really excelled themselves, collaborating with teams from all over the world to ensure every single thing that arrives is of the highest standard, and working day and night to get everything perfect for opening.

“We loved having Hello Kitty as part of the Drusillas family, and feel very proud to have achieved a first for Europe at the time – but are excited to now offer a really unique Drusillas experience throughout the Park. The transformation is just the beginning of so many more exciting developments coming up in the next few years.”

Zamperla also recently provided a Thunderbolt coaster to Yangzhou Fancy City. Redefining the park’s skyline with its vertical lift, the new ride is called Canal Peak and features a near-vertical drop.
