Thorpe Park has announced it is closing its Amity Beach water park and replacing it with a "recharge zone" called The Launchpad.

Owned and operated by Merlin Entertainments, Thorpe Park in Surrey has shared concept art of The Launchpad.

It said the new space will be a "recharge zone, designed for thrillseekers to rest, reset and refuel between adrenaline hits".

"As the UK's most thrilling theme park, we recognise how important it is to recharge between our exhilarating rides, and this space will be the perfect place to do that," Thorpe Park added.

The concept art shows that the area would include food kiosks, shaded areas and seating.

Opened in 1979, Thorpe Park features more than 30 thrilling rides, including the new Hyperia coaster, the tallest and fastest coaster in the UK.

Other major attractions at Thorpe Park include the UK’s first virtual reality (VR) dark ride, and coasters based on The Walking Dead and Saw.

In 2024, the park launched Big Easy Boulevard to replace the former Angry Birds Land.

In other news, Staffordshire-based Alton Towers, also owned by Merlin Entertainments, is set to launch the world’s first Bluey-themed roller coaster this spring.

Located in the park's CBeebies Land, the new attraction is called Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies.

“We can’t wait to welcome the mischievous and limitless energy of the grannies to the resort when we open the Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies this spring," said Howard Ebison, vice president of Alton Towers.
