This is the third annual study I have conducted regarding new rides at major theme parks and amusement parks around the world. While this listing does provide an in-depth overview of the rides opening in 2011, it is not intended to be exhaustive. This years’ inventory, in addition to being released a few months earlier than in previous years, has not been limited to rides announced for the larger parks. Not only are some of smaller parks included but several of the new attractions, new parks and new areas within existing parks have been added as well.
It should be noted that there are several “unknowns” in the columns dealing with cost and ride capacity. Typically, this far in advance of a ride or attraction being built these statistics are either not known or not released.
Except for a few instances, those rides that have relocated from one park to another have been omitted from this analysis; along with those rides that have been renovated and / or re-themed. The vast majority of rides that are geared towards the very young child along with the aquatic attractions have been excluded as well.
Kahaner Research obtains the figures used to create this report through a variety of reliable sources including ride manufacturer, park operators, architects and designers.
