3D/4D Theater: Simworx opens 4D effects theatre at Drayton Manor Theme Park

News

New 4D attraction is headline addition for 2009 season

Simulation attraction and effects theatres specialist Simworx has completed the installation of a new 4D effects theatre at one of the UK’s largest theme parks, Drayton Manor.

The new theatre made its debut on the opening day of the park’s 2009 season, March 21st., and received instant acclaim from special guests and visitors alike. Housed in an existing building which has been transformed to accommodate the brand new attraction, Simworx completed a full turnkey project, including the installation of a Christie high definition projection system to present the 3D imagery, special effects lighting and the company’s renowned Dimensions 4D effects seats.

The 152-seat theatre has highly comfortable, cinema style vibrating seats with backward seat drop, while numerous other special effects are also incorporated to enhance the experience. These include water spray, air blast, aroma, leg ticklers, low smoke, bubbles and special effects lighting which all combine to create a fun-filled experience suitable for all ages.

As well as the main theatre, the new attraction also features a pre-show area in which guests are gathered to watch a nine minute film screened on a series of flat screens positioned around the room. The footage on view plays out the arrival on the red carpet outside the theatre of a variety of ‘celebrities, ’ played by lookalikes, before introducing visitors to the venue and the attraction they are about to experience.

From the pre-show area, guests move into the main theatre where the award winning film Curse of Skull Rock is being shown throughout the 2009 season, with Halloween and Christmas themed films planned for the appropriate times later in the year. Curse of Skull Rock tells the story of the treacherous Captain Scabb and his unwitting crew and their search for the legendary lost treasure of Skull Rock and is a fun, comical, 12 minute tale in full HD 3D projection.

“I’m delighted with the opening of the new 4D effects theatre at Drayton Manor Theme Park, ” said Simworx Managing Director Terry Monkton. “They have made an excellent job of redeveloping an existing building into a new theatre and it is a real experience from the moment you enter the redesigned entrance to the end of the film. Curse of Skull Rock is an ideal film to open with as it fits perfectly with Drayton Manor’s family market and I’m sure it will prove to be a very successful addition.”

And Drayton Manor Managing Director Colin Bryan commented: “We are particularly pleased to have installed a new attraction with so much input from UK companies. Simworx is, of course, a local company, and Red Star, who produced the film, is UK based too. And it is yet another family attraction suitable for all ages and with good capacity.”
