The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) has appointed Gensler to lead its transformation into a multi-site museum campus.
The firm is collaborating with ICA Miami on the design and renovation of the museum’s second building, which was acquired in 2024 and is located on the same block as its existing building.
“This expansion is a natural next step for ICA Miami as we build upon the incredible community response we have received in our first decade, and our dynamic and continuously evolving exhibitions program and collection,” said Alex Gartenfeld, ICA Miami’s executive director and chief curator.
“Gensler has fully embraced the goals of the project and the operational and programmatic needs that will complement our existing program and facilities."

Opening in late 2027 and providing an additional 30,000 square feet, the new building will double ICA Miami's facilities for programming.
The first and second floors will each feature four new galleries, including ICA Miami’s first dedicated spaces for its permanent collection, galleries for special exhibitions, and a gallery for artists using emerging technologies.
The third floor will serve as a flexible venue for talks, lectures, performances and other public programmes.
The expansion also includes a new entrance and façade, as well as renovated outdoor spaces with shaded courtyards and sculptural landscapes.
Multi-site museum campus
“ICA Miami exemplifies what a contemporary art museum can be at its best: rigorous, generous, forward-looking, and firmly in the vanguard," said Bevin Savage Yamazaki, global culture and museums leader at Gensler.
"Beyond the addition of galleries, this renovation will strengthen ICA Miami’s ability to support artists, expand learning, and create a true platform for exchange and belonging in one of the most dynamic cultural cities in the world.”
Founded in 2014, ICA Miami has organised nearly 100 exhibitions, supported more than 1,000 artists, and welcomed more than one million visitors.
“We are so proud of this expansion, and the way it demonstrates ICA Miami's impact and leadership in our community and beyond," said Ray Ellen Yarkin, co-chair of ICA Miami’s board of trustees.
