Aldar Properties Awards Drake & Scull International Contract for Two Projects on Yas Island

Drake & Scull International, a leading end-to-end service provider of electrical and mechanical engineering, announced that it has been awarded the full Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing contract (‘MEP’) for the Yas Island Rotana Resort and Centro by Rotana. 

These projects have a contract value Dhs125m with a required completion date of June 2009. DSI was appointed by Aldar Properties PJSC.

The two hotels are situated on Yas Island, one of the largest natural islands off Abu Dhabi and part of a $40bn development project by Aldar Properties.

The project will turn Yas Island into a prestigious world-class leisure destination, with mixed-use tourist attractions including beaches, entertainment, shopping, hotels, residences, golfing, theme parks and motor racing.

For these projects, DSI will supply, install, test and commission the complete Fresh & Extract air ventilating, and air conditioning works as well as the power distribution, plumbing, drainage, and fire- fighting systems. DSI will also supply and install the internal chilled water supply return system, domestic water storage tanks, domestic water filtering & cooling systems and hot & cold water distribution system.

In addition, DSI will supply and install a chemical dosing, smoke extract, lighting control, lightening protection, aircraft warning light, background music, audio video, CCTV and security access control systems.

The Yas Island Rotana Resort is expected to open in July 2009 and will offer 308 rooms and suites, along with a wide range of food and beverage outlets, conference and banqueting facilities and a state-of-the-art fitness centre. Centro, Rotana’s budget hotel brand, is also expected to open in 2009 and will offer 259 rooms.

It will include a ‘deli-style’ dining option, the latest in-room technology, a gymnasium and swimming pool together with on-site business facilities such as private meeting rooms and business centre.

Yas Island occupies a total land area of 2, 500 hectares.

The Island will feature attractions such as a world-class motor sports racetrack, signature hotels, the Ferrari World theme park, Warner Bros. water theme park, and the Abu Dhabi destination retail development of 300, 000 sq m retail area, links and parkland golf courses, lagoon hotels, marinas, apartments, villas and numerous food & beverage outlets that will create a unique international tourist destination.

DSI installs the essential core systems of buildings and is a market leader in the MEP and civil contracting sector.

Some recent projects include Shangri-La Abu Dhabi Hotel, Park Place Tower, Indigo Tower, Rashid Hospital Trauma Centre, Zayed University Campus, Dubai Police Headquarters building, JBR District Cooling plant, and Dubai Festival City District Cooling scheme.

DSI recent won ‘MEP Contractor of the Year’ and ‘Medium MEP Project of the Year’ titles in Middle East MEP Awards 2007.
