Alton Towers’ Food Scores high with “Which?”

News

Alton Towers’, the UK’s leading theme park, receives high praise in a new report out today in the September issue of WHICH? Holiday.

The Report looks at the quality of food at leading UK visitor attractions, and particularly the availability of healthier options, and how well such options are highlighted and promoted.  Alton Towers scored maximum marks for its most popular restaurants, well above others reviewed, and WHICH? summarised by saying they were “delighted to see such a positive approach towards promoting and providing healthy food choices at a popular theme park.”

Alton Towers’ owner, Merlin Entertainments, takes its responsibilities to provide quality services to its visitors very seriously, and has invested heavily in improving the food quality and choice at all its theme parks – including developing their own healthy eating logo which helps visitors quickly identify these options.

Commenting, Gary Henderson at Merlin said “We are delighted that WHICH has acknowledged our efforts at Alton Towers.  We never forget that a day at Alton Towers, or indeed any of our theme parks, is of course a ‘treat’, and many of our guests’ food choices when they are with us, reflect just that.    Our aim however is to ensure we offer the widest possible choice, and that all those choices are of the highest quality.”

Recently LACORS (Local Authorities Co-ordinating Body on Food and Trading Standards) also raised concerns relating to childhood obesity, and the apparent lack of availability of healthy food options across the leisure sector.  In a letter to Merlin LACORS acknowledged the company’s intent to improve its offer in this area and stated that– “Merlin Entertainments recognises the need for healthy options, and has already taken clear steps to lead improvements in this area.”

Merlin Entertainments owns 4 theme parks in the UK – Alton Towers; Thorpe Park; LEGOLAND, Windsor; and Chessington World of Adventures
