Fantawild Holdings Inc., a leading one-stop solution provider in the theme park industry, has launched Mountains and Seas, a new dome flying attraction at its Ziyang Fantawild Oriental Legend park in Sichuan Province.

Inspired by the foundational Chinese literary work, the Classic of Mountains and Seas, the attraction immerses visitors in an iconic fantasy world.

Building on the oriental fantasy universe of Flying with Cranes, Let’s Fly, and Magic Gallery, Mountains and Seas demonstrates Fantawild’s leadership in advancing cultural inheritance through innovative technologies.

Classic of Mountains and Seas

Regarded as China’s earliest encyclopedia, the Classic of Mountains and Seas maps a world inhabited by mythological animals, plants, mineral resources, local customs, shaman healers, rituals, and distant kingdoms.

By combining the essence of the classic text with entertainment features and digital technologies, Fantawild has created three visual systems to recreate the book's world and build a newly accessible Eastern fantasy universe, rich with opportunities for exploration and expansion.

The narrative follows a young girl, Flora, to a kingdom above the clouds. Visitors fly through forests and caves, mountains and seas, as they encounter creatures from the Classic of Mountains and Seas. These include dragons, the phoenix, and the deer-like divine Fuzhu, among others.

The journey also includes a sprawling map of kingdoms, bringing mythological societies to life on the big screen like never before.

To enhance immersion, Fantawild developed suspended motion seats, which it paired with an ultra-high-resolution giant dome screen.

During flight simulation, visitors are surrounded by a hemispherical screen measuring 22 metres in diameter and experience sensations of hypergravity, weightlessness, and floating as they move through extraordinary landscapes.

Upon completing their flight, visitors continue to a secondary experience, the 'Jigong Kingdom Airship Caravan', which extends the Mountains and Seas narrative.

This combines themed environments, interactive photo spots, and live performances to evoke an airship caravan of humanoids and mythical beasts that Flora encounters after her initial flight.

Inside the camp, carefully crafted settings let visitors stay in the fantastical world, interacting with characters such as the Qiongqi beast or the Jigong caravan’s long-armed, beast-riding wine merchants.

Reimagined classics

Mountains and Seas reflects Fantawild's core philosophy of 'culture + technology', which seeks to carry forward and innovate traditional Chinese culture and heritage.

Over more than 10 years, the company has launched numerous acclaimed high-tech themed attractions inspired by classic Chinese literature and local culture, such as The Butterfly Lovers, The White-Snake Maiden's Fury, Palace of Chu, Qu Yuan, Song of the Wind, Love String, and The Poet Li Bai.

Across this portfolio, Fantawild has made continuous breakthroughs in core technologies including suspended motion-simulation seats, ultra-high-resolution dome screens and multi-DOF motion control.

Continuing this technological and creative innovation, Fantawild has successfully transformed the Classic of Mountains and Seas into an accessible flying experience, offering a compelling example of how traditional classics can be reimagined for engaging contemporary formats.

Looking forward, Fantawild will remain true to its mission, 'Make it Fantastic', remain rooted in Chinese culture, and fully leverage the advantages of its integrated culture-technology industry chain.

The company will strive to create more high-quality cultural tourism offerings, such as Mountains and Seas, that blend creativity, entertainment, and visual appeal. It will share Chinese stories with international audiences and continue to bring new energy to the innovative development of China’s cultural tourism sector.

Last month, Fantawild's beloved Boonie Bear characters, Briar and Bramble, were named Eco Ambassadors by the Center for Environmental Education and Communications of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (CEEC).
