News

Multimedia and AV specialist DJ Willrich (DJW) has kicked off 2013 with two of its projects being shortlisted for the prestigious EMEA Project InAVation Awards.

The firm has been commended for its work at the Titanic Belfast Experience and the BP Olympic Showcase, a Corporate Pavilion at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The projects shortlisted in the ‘Most InAVative Visitor Attraction’ and ‘Most InAVative Leisure and Entertainment Facility’ categories respectively.

DJW was appointed to integrate, commission and programme the audio visual systems for the Titanic Belfast Experience back in late 2011. The £1.3m AV project features a video cave, which puts the visitor inside scenes from the ship, such as the engine room, and in front of the famous staircase, video-scapes, a dark ride and interactive technology. The venue, now the world’s largest Titanic exhibition, opened to the public in March 2012 and is already Northern Ireland’s most visited attraction having had 650, 000 visitors in nine months.

The company’s second shortlisted entry was based around its work on the ‘BP Fuelling the Future’ showcase at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The showcase was designed to show how BP is rising to the global energy challenge by discovering and recovering energy efficiently, responsibly and safely from some of the most hostile environments on earth. It was set up in a temporary building on the Olympic park and relied heavily on AV integration. The visitors entered the main feature of the showcase and were seated in a circular theatre, on a turntable whilst a 360° video projection played in perfect synchronisation with the revolving floor.

DJW’s managing director, David Willrich, said: “It is a huge honour to be shortlisted in not one but two categories in these prestigious awards. For your work to be judged as among the best over several continents is something very special.”

Director Josh Miller added: “We are all incredibly proud of our part in both projects and this, together with other project achievements such as the National Football Museum, Manchester, has made 2012 a year to remember.”

The winners of the EMEA Project InAVation Awards will be announced on January 30 at the Amsterdam Convention Factory in the Netherlands.
