The EDF Energy London Eye, London’s iconic 135m high observation wheel, has welcomed its 50 millionth visitor since opening in March 2000.
Originally only due to open for five years, the giant wheel has enjoyed such success that it has been granted lifelong permission to remain on the South Bank of the River Thames.
As part of the Merlin Entertainments Group, the London Eye experience has evolved over the years to include:
- a 4D cinema experience
- upgraded capsules to improve air temperature control and reduce overall carbon emissions
- interactive touch screen guides in several languages
- new products such as a Pimm’s Experience and Dining at 135
David Sharpe, Divisional Director at Merlin Entertainments, said, “To reach 50 million visitors since our opening in March 2000 is a testament to the popularity of the London Eye, a structure that has become one of the most recognisable and well-loved sights in the London skyline.
