Family Attractions: One of America’s Best Haunted Houses Unleashes a ‘Rampage!’ in Pittsburgh

News

"Pittsburgh’s Ultimate Haunt" has been named as one of America’s scariest Halloween attractions by Travel Channel and ranked as one of the country’s Top 13 haunted attractions by Hauntworld magazine.

This fall, The ScareHouse will present three terrifying attractions for just one price: Hall of Nightmares, Delirium 3-D, and a brand new haunt: RAMPAGE!

A team of designers and artists from all across America have spent the last 11 months creating one of the most innovative and elaborate haunted houses ever produced in Pittsburgh. This high-tech haunted attraction utilizes Hollywood-quality special effects, lighting, sound, and costumes that can only be seen at The ScareHouse .

"We started the production and design process before our 2008 season had even ended, " said Scott Simmons, Creative Director of The ScareHouse. "We also employed veteran designers in Hollywood to help us create attractions and effects that rival anything you would expect to see in a theme park."

RAMPAGE! is heavily influenced by "steampunk, " a sub-genre of fantasy and science-fiction that has attracted a growing fan base of alternative artists. The term denotes works set in an alternative Victorian era of culture and technology where steam power is still the prominent form of energy. The ScareHouse designers studied countless reference photos and technical drawings to find inspiration for new costumes, sets, and other production elements.

"We have packed every last inch of all three attractions with detail, " said Simmons. "It’s just not easy to catch it all when everyone is screaming, running, and having such a good time getting scared."

The ScareHouse opens for a sneak preview weekend on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19. It will be open on select dates from September 25 through October 31. Doors open at 7pm.
