An open-air ice skating rink next to the London Eye will open this November for the midwinter season.

This will be the first winter skating rink in London’s Southbank area. The London Eye will also be offering special Mulled Wine flights, Champagne flights and a Mistletoe Cupid’s Capsule for London Eye passengers over the festive season. The Cupid’s Capsule package includes champagne and truffles and a spray of Christmas mistletoe for a couple in their own private capsule.

The London Eye is 135 metres (443ft) high – the height of 64 red telephone boxes standing on top of each other. It is the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel and the fifth tallest structure in London after the BT Tower, Tower 42, 30 St Mary Axe (the ‘Gherkin’) and One Canada Square in Canary Wharf.

Supermodel Kate Moss holds the record for the UK celebrity who has enjoyed the most rotations – 25. Hollywood star Jessica Alba holds the record for an overseas celebrity with the most rotations at 31.

The ice rink will be open daily 10am–9pm from 20 November to 5 January. Tickets cost from £10.50 for adults and from £7.50 for children 4–15. Tickets for skating and a flight in the Eye cost £28.45 (£26.65 online) adults, £17 (£16.05) children, £90.90 (£85.40) Family of Four ticket. All tickets include the London Eye’s 4D experience.
