LightWild announced that it has completed an LED lighting project by delivering the defining elements of a compass design that is recessed in the lobby floor of the Sports Museum of America located in Lower Manhattan, New York, NY.
The project utilized twenty-three of LightWild’s 12-inch (300 mm) circular in-grade Tiles with cool white LEDs and a frosted diffused lens to form a uniform smooth circle of light. These circles of light illustrate where different sports venues such as Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden are located from the Sports Museum of America in New York.
"The Sports Museum of America was programmed to provide a highly interactive and dynamic experience for the sportsman in all of us, " says Donna Sumner, Senior Associate of SBLD Studio, "The lighting design took its cue from this forward thinking approach to museum planning and the ticket lobby is a wonderful example of this (application)."
"The lobby floor acts as a signpost and compass giving the direction of noted sporting venues and attractions. LightWild Tiles were used to punctuate the ends of the radiating geographic lines. The product was easily integrated into the terrazzo floor and created the effect we all hoped to achieve."
Sam Gordon, Director of Museum Exhibits at the Sports Museum of America says, "The Sports Museum of America is the nation’s first and only museum to cover all sports under one roof. A lighting application situated in the floor of the museum’s lobby illustrates the Museum’s mission to encompass all sports, and the iconic landmarks across the country and around the world where they are played."
